Topic : Techniques, Training, and Practice (100 hours)
This category will include asanas, pranayamas, anatomy, yoga philosophy, meditation
and other traditional yoga techniques. Analytical and guided practice in how to teach
these concepts will be received.
Topic: Teaching Methodology (50 hours)
This category includes various teaching styles, communication skills, group dynamics, time management, healthy boundaries, demonstration of yoga asanas, observation of bodies, assisting and adjusting, and how to address the specific needs of individuals and special populations. Discussion of students learning process, qualities of a teacher, and the business aspect of teaching yoga.
Topic: Anatomy and Physiology (50 hours)
This category will include, but not be limited to Human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.), as well as Energy anatomy and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.). The study of the subject and its principles will be applied to yoga practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc.).
Topic: Yoga Philosophy , Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teacher (30 hours)
This will entail the study of yoga philosophies and traditional texts such as The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Hathayoga, Pradipika, and the Bhagavad-Gita. We will discuss applying the 8 limbs of yoga to everyday life, ethics for yoga teachers , such as those involving teacher/student relationships and community, and understanding the valve of teaching yoga as a service and being of service to others through yoga (Seva).
Topic: Practicum (20 hours)
This will entail practicing teaching, receiving and giving feedback, observing others teach, assist students while someone else is teaching.
Each participant will be required to sign up to teach three one-hour classes and a 2-hour workshop, in the evening, or on the weekend (schedule TBD).
Together these classes count towards 5 of the practicum hours in which the participant must be the primary instructor. In addition, you must attend 17 sessions of peer teaching classes and stay for a half-hour feedback session. These sessions may include observing or assisting.
The following requirements also count in 300 hours of training course required hours.
